From Complexity to Clarity
Are we truly making the most of what we already have?

So much can be achieved with what companies already have.
Today's trends often push companies towards large transformation projects, expensive new systems, or the latest AI technologies to automate processes, build new dashboards, or create interactive reports.
Not long ago, I was involved in a project where the obvious direction was to implement a large-scale planning solution. Our team, however, believed there was a much simpler way for one part of the process. Convincing leadership wasn't easy, but in the end, the best solution turned out to be… staying with Excel.
Not because Excel is better than specialised planning tools.
But because it was the right tool for the problem we were actually trying to solve.
Too often, we skip the very first step.
Simply changing the way we look at what we're doing.
Every company is different, but they all have one thing in common.
None of them is perfect.
There is always room to improve.
We live in a world of bold ideas, sophisticated systems and technologies that promise to do the work for us. And I genuinely believe they can create tremendous value.
I use AI every single day. But more and more, I realise that technology doesn't create efficiency on its own.
It helps us think differently.
It challenges us to question old habits, simplify the way we work and continuously develop our own skills.
Still, before building anything new, there is one foundation that should always come first.
Understanding what we do, how we do it, and why we do it.
Only then can we step back, look at our processes objectively, and choose the right path forward.
Implementing a large system or adopting AI without a clear understanding of the real business need and the expected value is, in my opinion, often just an illusion of greater efficiency.
Instead of creating clarity, it can easily create more complexity, more frustration, and more chaos.
Maybe the question isn't whether we need another technology.
Maybe the first question should be much simpler.
Are we truly making the most of what we already have?
